To Whom It May Concern, I am pleased to write this character reference on behalf of Olivia Glover, a dedicated and highly respected member of my football team. I have had the privilege of knowing and coaching Liv for the past few years in which she has consistently demonstrated exceptional character and work ethic qualities that make her an outstanding candidate for any scholarship opportunity. Liv is the kind of player every coach hopes to have. She approaches training sessions with focus and determination, and she holds herself to a high standard both on and off the pitch. Her commitment to improvement is evident not only in her performances but also in the supportive way she engages with her teammates. Liv leads by example, she is dependable, disciplined, and unfailingly positive, even in challenging moments. Beyond her fantastic playing abilities, Liv is a great character to have around the squad, she is funny and gets on with everyone. She treats others with respect, communicates thoughtfully, and contributes to a team culture and environment that values kindness, cooperation and sportsmanship. Liv’s strong character, combined with her motivation and resilience, truly set her apart. I have no doubt that she will bring the same level of dedication and excellence to her academic pursuits as she has to our team. She is deserving of any opportunity that helps her continue to grow and succeed. I wholeheartedly recommend Liv for your scholarship program. If you require any additional information, please feel free to contact me. Yours Sincerely,
Gavin Calder Manager Southampton Women FC

I am delighted to provide this reference in support of Olivia’s application for a football scholarship in the United States. I have worked closely with Olivia throughout her time at Itchen College, where she has been an outstanding member of our Women’s Football Academy and a highly committed student.
From a footballing perspective, Olivia is an exceptional winger with the attributes required to succeed at a high-performance level. She is quick, composed, and confident in possession, with an excellent ability to take players on in 1v1 situations. Olivia regularly drives at defenders, commits opponents, and creates goal-scoring opportunities for herself and others. She is also very comfortable receiving the ball under pressure, confidently playing with her back to goal or with defenders tight behind her - a quality that highlights both her technical ability and game intelligence.
Olivia has been a consistent starter in our first team since joining Itchen College and has captained the side for the past two seasons. Her leadership is evident in the way she sets standards, communicates effectively, and leads by example in both training and competitive fixtures. She is currently our top goal scorer, with five goals in five games this season, including an excellent hat-trick in a National Cup match against Blenheim. Last season, she scored nine goals, demonstrating her consistency and attacking impact over time.
Her performances have been recognised at national level, having represented the England Colleges team last year. During this time, she scored a goal and earned her England Colleges cap - a significant achievement that reflects her quality and potential.
Outside of college football, Olivia plays first-team football for Southampton Women (Sirens) as a left winger. Since her move from Ascot last season, she has become a regular starter and played a key role in helping the team achieve promotion to Tier 4. Competing at this level has further developed her tactical awareness, physicality, and resilience.
Academically, Olivia has shown the same commitment and professionalism. She studied Triple BTEC Sport (achieving a D*DD), completed the Higher Sports Leaders Award coaching qualification, and is currently undertaking her Football Coaching Diploma. She maintains good attendance, manages her time effectively, and balances academic demands alongside an elite football programme.
Olivia is a driven, coachable, and highly motivated individual who would thrive in the US college system. She would be a fantastic addition to any programme, both as a footballer and as a student, and I am confident she would make a positive and immediate impact.
