Sam Dobson
Current Club
Walton & Hersham Youth
Centre Back
Sam is a composed and reliable defender, confident playing out from the back but fully aware of when to clear danger decisively. In one-on-one situations, he uses his strength and positioning to hold up attackers, get between them and the ball, or execute crucial last-ditch tackles to prevent potential goals. When his team is on the attack, Sam is proactive in carrying the ball forward when space allows, helping to advance play up the pitch. He also poses a threat during set pieces, making intelligent runs to attack corners from the back post.

“I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Sam Dobson, who is applying for a football / soccer scholarship in the United States. I have had the privilege of coaching Sam Dobson for the past six years at school, club and private academy level, where he has consistently stood out both on and off the pitch. As a centre back, Sam exemplifies leadership, tactical intelligence, and a commitment to team success. Sam is a player who reads the game exceptionally well, organises his teammates with authority, and is fearless and committed in challenges both aerially and on the ground. His physical strength is matched by his discipline and composure under pressure, making him a reliable player within any team. Sam also possesses excellent technical attributes, with his ability to dictate play, execute line-breaking passes and be a calming influence in possession. This is an area Sam has worked hard on and has been rewarded with his years of dedication towards his training and his football development. Beyond his technical and physical qualities, Sam possesses outstanding character. He is respected by teammates and all of our Fontana coaches for his work ethic, humility, and willingness to go above and beyond for the team. He leads by example, encourages players around him, and approaches every training session and match with professionalism and determination. Academically, Sam is equally committed. While balancing the demands of his studies, Sam is able to focus on his own football development. He is mature, coachable, and adaptable—qualities that I am confident will allow him to thrive in a collegiate environment both athletically and academically. I strongly recommend Sam for any football / soccer scholarship opportunity. He would be an asset to any program, bringing not only his defensive skills but also his leadership and positive influence.”
“ Reference from Jon Everitt , I’m delighted to give a reference for Sam Dobson. I am the manager of Walton & Hersham under 18’s Robins and have been for the past 10 seasons. We compete in the top division of the SSYFL and have come runners up in the league and are awaiting our cup final on 10th May. Sam Dobson joined our squad at the beginning of this season and has played and trained regularly with us. His attitude is impeccable and he has become a popular and valued member of the team. He understands the game and is keen and willing to listen and improve. He plays centre back, and is encouraged to be calm on the ball and play out from the back, which he has excelled at. He is highly competitive and wins the majority of tackles and headers and has won multiple man of the match awards this season. It’s rare to find such a combination of skill and composure with a competitive spirit, but Sam possesses all of these in abundance. He is a joy to coach and manage.”
