During his time under my tutelage, Scott showed himself to be a very reliable, confident & able young man, both on the field of play as well as away from it. As a footballer, Scott is very influential on the pitch. His decision making makes him a very impactful attacking threat, his quality in possession meant he would always be causing issues for the opposition & his overall fitness saw him have as much of an impact later in the game as he did at the start. Throughout his team in the school’s 1stXI, he was not only open to adopting different roles, but then had the quality to mean that his performances had an impact on the end result. Towards on the end of his time with me, Scott proved to be a very useful wing back, but he was just as useful more centrally when games required someone to get on the ball & make good choices, or as a wider attacking threat whereby his speed & quality end product allowed him to offer danger. As much as I feel he would be better suited higher up the pitch, Scott can also be deployed defensively. His one v one defending has improved over recent years, whilst his confidence & leadership allows him to organise teams well around him. From a extra-curricular perspective, I also got Scott involved in the County League Saturday side that I coach - New Romney Reserves. Despite being the youngest member of the squad, Scott’s importance to the team was clear from his first training session. Off the field he fitted in well with the rest of the playing members, but on the pitch he was often heavily involved in their good start to their season with impressive performances. Scott also showed his all round sporting abilities by being an important member of the school’s hockey, cricket & golf teams, as well as representing his House in various other sporting competitions throughout his time at The Harvey. This shows Scott’s ability to solve problems, transfer skills & be proactive in his approach to different situations. His manner, personality & mature approach meant he was a perfect candidate to be invited on the school’s biannual football tour to America - given the nature of the trip, a person’s demeanour off the field is as much if not more important to gaining an invite to this tour as their footballing ability. Scott was a perfect ambassador for the school, the team & himself during the fortnight away, often being comfortable to speak to members of the public on the school’s & team’s behalf, whilst also upholding the high expectations we have of all of our student players at all times. Socially he is someone who all the members of the PE staff felt were able to chat easily with. This carried on pass the school’s staff to members of the Old Harveians Association who often hosted events whereby Scott would be the ‘face’ of the student or sporting body.
